Carlo Chiurco is Associate professor of Philosophy at the Department of Medicine for Innovation Engineering. After working as a civil servant for the Italian Ministry of Artistic and Cultural Heritage from 1999 to 2010, he became Assistant professor at the Department of Human Sciences of the University of Verona in December 2011. In 2019 he became Associate professor, and in 2023 he moved to his current Department. In 2020 he was awarded a two-years research grant for the project «HEALING – HEALth and Illness in Nietzsche and the Greeks». In 2023-25 he supervised the research project «NET – Nietzsche’s Environmental Ethics», founded within the Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions .
His research interests focus on general ethics (the sacred, violence, and sacrifice), applied ethics (bioethics, ethics of biotechnologies, ethics of artificial intelligence, the cultural and anthropological impact of new technologies), and the philosophy of Nietzsche (especially his late works, his reflections on the free spirit, the causes of the rise and fall of civilisations, and the meaning of health and illness).
